Netflix confirm Luther sequel
Luther is returning for a second original film on Netflix, bringing back one of television’s most complex and relentless detectives.
The follow-up to the 2023 movie will once again see Idris Elba step into the role of John Luther — the brilliant but tormented investigator known for his unorthodox methods and unwavering pursuit of justice. Jamie Payne returns to direct, continuing his collaboration with Elba that has helped define the show’s gritty, psychological tone. Elba will be joined by longtime costars Dermot Crowley, reprising his role as the steadfast DCI Martin Schenk, and Ruth Wilson, returning as the enigmatic and dangerous Alice Morgan — Luther’s equal in intellect and darkness.
When a wave of brutal, seemingly random murders hits London, Luther is secretly called back into service. But how can he save London when everyone on all sides seems to want him dead?
Director Payne is excited to wade back into Luther’s murky waters. “Neil has yet again created a wonderfully dark tale to bring us all back together.
