Anjli Mohindra, Shaun Parkes and Aidan Gillen to star in ITV’s SAviour
ITV has unveiled Saviour, a new six-part legal thriller headlined by Anjli Mohindra, Shaun Parkes and Aidan Gillen, with the trio set to lead a high-profile cast in the fast-paced drama. The series is produced by Nisha Parti’s Parti Productions alongside Drama Republic, in association with All3Media International.
The drama has been commissioned by ITV Director of Drama Polly Hill and will air on ITV and STV, with streaming available on ITVX and STV Player. Saviour is executive produced by Peter Moffat and Nisha Parti, and written by criminal barrister, novelist and screenwriter Imran Mahmood, marking his first original television drama.
Hill praised the creative team behind the project, saying: “I’m delighted to be working with Nisha Parti whose work I have long admired, and I’m really proud of the fact this is Imran Mahmood’s first TV drama. Alongside Nisha, we are lucky to have the brilliant Peter Moffat and the team at Drama Republic bringing this fantastic drama to screen. The casting of Anjil, Shaun and Aidan is exceptional. This is going to be a really exciting new drama that I am confident the audience will love.”
Developed closely by Parti and Mahmood, Saviour is rooted in the realities of the criminal justice system, drawing on Mahmood’s experience as a full-time criminal barrister. The series is produced by Matthew Patnick and filmed across Liverpool, with direction from Leanne Welham and Annetta Laufer. Additional episodes are written by Frances Poletti and Namsi Khan.
At the centre of the story is Ben, played by Archie Fisher, whose life spirals after an altercation at a party — sparked by him wearing his father’s police uniform — leads to a man’s death. Ben is defended by rising criminal solicitor Indy Sangar, portrayed by Mohindra, who has just achieved Higher Rights of Audience at the Old Bailey.
As Indy fights a murder charge on Ben’s behalf, she finds herself navigating police corruption, racial politics, intense media scrutiny and a rigid justice system, while her client conceals troubling secrets. At the same time, long-buried truths from Indy’s own life begin to surface, threatening both her career and her family.
Opposing her is Detective Inspector Jon Creasy, played by Parkes, whose determination to uncover the truth puts him at odds with Eddie, Ben’s father, portrayed by Gillen. Eddie, a police officer himself, is prepared to cross any line necessary to protect his son.
The series poses a central question: how far would you go to protect the people you love?
The wider cast includes Abhin Galeya, Tobias Jowett, Nethra Tilakumara, Angus Wright, Claire Goose, Adjani Salmon, Campbell Wallace and Precious Wura Alabi.
Parti said of the project: “I am so thrilled to see this show finally becoming a reality thanks to the brilliant talents of Imran and Peter. I’m grateful to Polly Hill for believing in the script at the very early stages of development, and for Drama Republic coming on board to help steer the ship smoothly. I’d also like to thank All3Media International and the Liverpool City Region Production Fund as our additional financiers. Having Anjli, Shaun and Aidan, as well as so many other talented and diverse names working with our two very classy female directors to complete the Saviour family is a dream come true. I cannot wait to share the show with everyone.”
Parti is known for producing the BAFTA-nominated The Boy with the Topknot and founded her company with a focus on internationally driven drama reflecting her Indian heritage. Mahmood previously wrote the novel You Don’t Know Me, which was adapted for television in 2021.
