Exclusive Interview: What’s next for Jack from The Traitors?
29 year old Personal Trainer Jack won the hearts of millions as a faithful on the latest season of The Traitors. He also won the hearts of his fellow players, making it all the way to the final without a single vote and with no suspicion on him whatsoever.
Now the dust has settled, we sat down for a chat with Jack to reflect on the record-breaking season and to find out what’s in store for him next…
Why did you apply for The Traitors?
I was just a massive fan of the show. I'd watched the three previous seasons and then the American ones, the Australian ones, Ireland... all of them! I just found them fascinating. As a personal trainer I really love watching the missions but also the whole psychological aspect... herd mentality and all of that. It's like the film 'Twelve Angry Men', I think people unconciously do things and believe certain things and I tried to avoid all of that but then fell into that trap anyway.
Was there a game plan?
It's difficult because I kind of had a lot of tactics planned for if I was going to be a traitor. I was dead set on being one, and in all my casting and interviews I had talked about being a traitor all along and then ended up not being picked as one. So I had to change things up. Once I knew I was a faithful, I thought I need to be quieter early on and stay under the radar. All the vocal ones always go early, every single season. Say too much, you incriminate yourself or get the spotlight on you. I think that's what got me so far, my voice progressively got louder.
Why do you think your name never came up?
It's funny isnt it, I guess people never doubted me, maybe. I was just myself. It was a traitor I would've put on an act and dumbed it down, but none of that was needed. As a faithful you can just be yourself. All the cast are lovely, we all got on so well. It's crazy to think I never got a vote or came near it. A lot was cut and edited out but honestly, I was never accused or suspected. I'm definitely proud of that.
It is heavily edited, is there anything that happened and you were surprised not to see it on screen?
There's a couple of things. I have to be careful in what I say, but yes one thing I can say is in the kitchen, half way through the game, me, Stephen, Ellie were chatting. I was stress eating the chocolates in the kitchen. I got an Oreo and digestive and then I made a round table and put jelly babies around it, so I made this whole round table. I had a bourbon biscuit and stuck Claudia on it... I can't believe they cut it, I was so proud of it! All the camera crew came out and took photos of it, so there must be images somewhere.
A lot has been said about your reaction at the end. What's the truth there?
I've tried my best to set the record straight. I did early interviews with a newspaper after the final and it was spun out of context. I was asked what happened next when I was banished. So I said "Producers take you into a room and you film your reaction to who the traitors are". They said, I was pulled into a room and I was so enraged and had this tantrum... that never happened. That article was written, we tried to complaion about it, but of course it kept getting reported by other outlets. I'm not that kind of the guy, hopefully you can see that. I was disappointed but there was never anger or hate then or now directed to Stephen or Rachel. They deserved to win, and you can see now we're all great friends.
You've been with the cast since it went out, what's the feeling about it all?
Really positive. We've all really enjoyed the journey and seeing it unfold. It's exciting to see it edited and on tv. Filming the show was one of the best experiences of my life, I feel so grateful. Jessie and I, we were talking the other day and just said our paths probably never would have crossed and we've all formed these bonds and it's so nice. There is no bad blood at all, people can differentiate the game from friendships. Previous seasons have seen those lines blurred, but our season is definitely all positive.
Next time we see it, it will be a celebrity one. Who do you want to see on it?
I think I said this the other week, but if you've seen Last One Laughing, Richard A and Bob Mortimer... get either or both of them on it, but particularly Bob Mortimer he would be amazing. Jamie Oliver is rumoured, Cheryl, Tom Hiddleston, loads of really cool people.
You have a great personal training business going on, what's the plan for you next?
Thank you, I've alwasys been a face to face PT for nine years now, and I love what I do. I think the next step is online training, you can then fit more people in but it requires less time. I only have so many hours in a day. I have picked up some online clients and my hope is to have a fifty-fifty split, that's what I'd really love to do now. At the moment, I'm full on and would like a couple of days rest and have some online clients, that's what I'd like.
In terms of more exposure, would you do The Celebrity Apprentice?
Ah I don't know, I haven't watched it for ages. I don't know if it's my thing. The one that appeals to me is SAS: Who Dares Wins. I'm not saying i'd ever be offered it, but that's the one that I want to do.
I have got some cool stuff coming up, I just can't say what it is yet, but some content creation kind of stuff.. there's a lot of exciting things around fitness that feel right.
Well congratulations on coming across so well and we look forward to following what you do next.
