Jonathan Bailey to read 'Room on the Broom' for Cbeebies Bedtime Stories
Olivier and Critics’ Choice Award winner Jonathan Bailey is bringing an extra touch of magic to CBeebies Bedtime Story. He’ll be settling into the storyteller’s chair on Friday 21 November at 6.45pm to share Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s much-loved tale Room on the Broom.
Families can cosy up as Jonathan guides them through the classic adventure about a friendly witch, her loyal cat, and the surprising friends they meet as they fly through the blustery skies. The story’s playful rhythm, warmth, and gentle humour make it an ideal choice for a soothing bedtime moment celebrating bravery, teamwork, and kindness.

Jonathan is well practised at bringing a bit of wonder to his performances, and audiences will soon see him take to the skies as Fiyero in the eagerly awaited Wicked: For Good. He brings that same sense of theatrical charm to his Bedtime Story appearance, drawing on memories of reading the book to his young nieces and nephews and showing them how cooperation and care can transform any wild journey into something special.

Jonathan reflects on how enchanting the story feels from the very first page, praising Julia Donaldson’s lively writing and the story’s heartfelt celebration of generosity and togetherness. It’s a regular favourite in his family, where he’s known for bringing characters to life with animated voices and plenty of sparkle. He hopes young viewers—and the adults watching with them—will feel the same sense of magic.
