F1 The Movie is finally coming to Apple TV in December
Dubbed “the greatest that never was,” F1 The Movie follows Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a once-promising Formula 1® prodigy from the 1990s whose career was derailed by a devastating crash. Decades later, Sonny lives as a drifter and racer-for-hire until he’s approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), now the owner of a failing Formula 1® team on the brink of collapse. Persuaded to return for one final season, Sonny joins forces—and clashes—with the team’s ambitious rookie driver Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris). As the engines ignite, old rivalries and past regrets resurface, forcing Sonny to confront both his legacy and the reality that redemption in Formula 1® is never a solo pursuit.
The film also features Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, and Javier Bardem, and was filmed amid real Grand Prix weekends, immersing audiences directly into the world of elite motorsport. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Joseph Kosinski, seven-time Formula 1® World Champion Lewis Hamilton, Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Chad Oman, the film blends Hollywood spectacle with the high-stakes authenticity of professional racing.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger, based on a story by Kosinski and Kruger, the film’s executive producer is Daniel Lupi. The creative team includes director of photography Claudio Miranda, production designers Mark Tildesley and Ben Munro, editor Stephen Mirrione, costume designer Julian Day, casting director Lucy Bevan, and composer Hans Zimmer.
Beyond the screen, F1 The Movie has sparked a cultural and musical phenomenon with F1® The Album—a high-octane soundtrack that has sold more than 650,000 copies worldwide and surpassed one billion global streams. Dominating Billboard’s Top Movie Songs chart with seven tracks in the top ten, the album features Tate McRae’s two-time VMA-nominated anthem “Just Keep Watching,” which has generated over four billion views across short-form video platforms. The soundtrack has become one of 2025’s defining pop-culture moments, cementing the film’s impact beyond the racetrack.
F1 The Movie is an Apple Original Films and Warner Bros. Pictures presentation of a Monolith Pictures / Jerry Bruckheimer Films / Plan B Entertainment / Dawn Apollo Films production. A Joseph Kosinski film, it is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
