Beech Hill Hotel and Spa makes for the perfect getaway

With many of us considering a staycation right now, there's no better place to get away to than the Lake District. Beautiful scenery, loads of family attractions and some exceptional accommodation choices make it the ideal choice to escape to.

We stayed at the Beech Hill Hotel and Spa, located right on the edge of Lake Windermere. With beautiful views across the lake, the hotel was just what we needed. On arrival, we chilled in the hotel bar, looking out across the water and felt like there wasn't a care in the world. With two young children in tow, we were made to feel extremely welcome, and the little ones were so excited to be there. We stayed in a family room, which was perfect. Two very large and very, very comfortable beds awaited us. Not only that, but there was a large plasma, a sofa and again, some wonderful views. It felt more like a suite! The bathroom was immaculate and to be honest, if we hadn't left the room again we would have been more than happy.

As it happens, we did indeed leave the room; for one, we enjoyed a gorgeous meal in the hotel restaurant. The staff were so accommodating and the whole experience felt really special. There was plenty to choose from on the menu, and the children said their fish and chips were among the best they'd ever eaten! Burlington's restaurant offers great value, with a three course meal setting you back just £39.95. Likewise, breakfast was also first rate. As you'll know, a good hotel breakfast is so important and sets your day off just right, and this was certainly the case here. We couldn't fault it.

This hotel is steeped with character. Whilst fully furnished with all mod cons, there's definitely a classic feel to it. You could be on set of an Agatha Christie tale, especially as you sit having afternoon tea looking over the lake! Here's what the hotel themselves say about the history here: "The Beech Hill Hotel can comfortably trace its origins back to the 1900s, when the stone walls of the original hotel first graced the banks of Windermere. Throughout the intervening years, the hotel has evolved and grown, timely refurbishments enhancing both the accommodation and the guest experience. A sense of history is very much in evidence throughout the Beech Hill Hotel, marrying as it does links from the past with the timeless elegance of room sets that look and feel just right. A Venetian chandelier, a bronze deer, a roaring log fire. There’s so much to look at and enjoy. It’s an ambiance that has taken years to achieve, an atmosphere borne of much love and no little time." Bringing the hotel bang up to date is its luxurious spa. There are many spa treatments on offer, as well as an absolutely sublime pool. Just what you need after a long day walking in the Lake District.

Finally, the hotel location is superb. You're just up the road from a lovely little marina site with shops or if you head a little further into town, you'll find lots of shops, eateries and the brilliant Beatrix Potter attraction. We can't recommend the Beech Hill Hotel and Spa enough. It's certainly somewhere we'd love to return to in the cosy winter months. Fantastic! Check out http://beechhillhotel.co.uk for full details including pricing and booking.
