Jordan North to leave Radio 1 as bosses “line up Dean McCullough to take over from Greg James”

Jordan North is leaving BBC Radio 1, prompting speculation he’s about to get one of the biggest jobs in radio.

The presenter, who made his name on the station will leave imminently, to be replaced by Jamie Laing. Jamie, who previously filled in for Mollie King alongside Matt Edmondson will join Vick Hope to co-host Going Home on Radio 1 (15:30 – 18:00, Monday to Thursday), starting as soon as Monday 4 March.

Jordan joined the station in 2014, and in the same year, theversion.co.uk named him as our ‘One To Watch’ for 2015. He went on to present his own shows before being teamed up with former Capital presenter Vick Hope on drivetime.

Radio 1 issued a statement saying “Jordan has been behind some of the most hilarious and entertaining moments on air over the years, and has been a constant source of inspiration for younger presenters. Thank you for everything.”

Jordan has enjoyed huge success in recent years, with presenting stints on Saturday Night Takeaway and the meteoric rise of his podcast series Help! I Sexted My Boss.

It’s thought that Jordan is leaving the BBC and will take up a massive new show on a commercial station. There’s speculation that he could be joining Capital, among growing speculation that Roman Kemp is about to step down from hosting Capital Breakfast. If true, that news could come as soon as Monday.

In the meantime, an insider told theversion.co.uk “Radio 1 is going through massive changes at the moment and it is widely rumoured that Greg James will also leave the station at the end of 2024. The prime candidate to take over from him is Dean McCullough, who incredibly, has managed to hold on to the audience figures that Scott Mills had at lunchtimes”. For a while, Jordan was favourite to be the next DJ to take over the coveted breakfast show, but it isn’t to be.

More news on Jordan’s next move is set to follow very soon. Sign up to be alerted, below.
