Sara Cox leaves Radio 2 teatime: Final show details revealed as new Breakfast Show launch

Sara Cox will leave the Radio 2 teatime show next week to prepare for the new Breakfast Show, which theversion.co.uk understands is due to start on Monday 29 June.

Sara told listeners: Speaking on the show, she said: “A small announcement. I didn’t want anything too dramatic, you know? A poem, just to say, a brand new breakfast show is on the way. No need to wail, faint or shriek, but Monday’s the start of Teatime’s final ever week.”

She continued: “New breakfast show incoming, guys. Incoming! Brace, brace, brace! Next week’s our final week on Teatime with you’s lot. And I love each and every one of you!”

Sara will say farewell to her loyal listeners on Friday 12 June, after 7 years in the drivetime slot. She was favourite to take over Breakfast after Scott Mills was sensationally sacked by the BBC.

On getting the role, Sara said: “I’ve had the most glorious seven years of my career on Teatime so thank you to my brilliant Teatime listeners who hopefully will join me at Breakfast for excellent music and all my usual nonsense plus some superstar guests. I honestly can’t wait to wake the nation up with the biggest most fun breakfast show ever.”

“There are not enough adjectives to really sum up how I’m feeling about being trusted with such an iconic show but let’s start with ecstatic, honoured and incredibly chuffed. It’s been a dream to host the Breakfast Show since I joined Radio 2 and it feels like a bit of a full circle for me”.

There’s still no news on who her afternoon replacement will be, but Emma Willis, Rylan, OJ Borg and Gary Davies are all rumoured for the job. The brand new teatime show is slated to launch on the same day as the new Breakfast show.
