TV Tonight: The Supervet

theversion.co The Supervet: Noel Fitzpatrick is on Channel 4 tonight at 9pm.

The Supervet: Noel Fitzpatrick showcases the extraordinary work of veterinary surgeon Professor Noel Fitzpatrick and his team at Fitzpatrick Referrals, where families from around the world seek hope and solutions for their animal friends. Adventurous cat Oz has broken his ankle dramatically falling from a significant height. His local vet tried to fuse the joint solid, but the procedure didn't work. Cassie and Ashley thought their only option was to have the leg amputated, but a chance encounter with Noel has given them hope that Oz's leg could possibly be saved. Eight-month-old Labrador puppy Ollie is rushed to Fitzpatricks as a late-night emergency after being hit by a car.

After an MRI scan, Noel ascertains that his spinal cord has been severely damaged by fractured vertebrae in his spine due to the impact. Even with surgery, there's no guarantee that Ollie will ever be able to walk again. Under huge time pressure, the family have to make an agonising decision whether or not to go ahead with surgery in the hope that his vertebrae can be reconstructed, and that his spinal cord can recover with time, despite the odds; or to put him to sleep.

And four-year-old Bullmastiff Bayleigh is referred to Noel with a suspicious and painful lump near her ankle, which is preventing her from walking without limping. Worst fears are realised when a full body CT scan confirms that the lump is bone cancer. Noel offers an alternative to amputation: removing the tumour and saving the leg with an endoprosthesis - an implant that he invented - so that Bayleigh can be given the best quality of life possible.
