Entertainment News: Barbie movie won’t be released until 31st December

Fans of the new Barbie film face disappointment this Christmas, as icymi can reveal the film won’t be released on DVD until New Year’s Eve.

Warner Bros. have taken the unusual step of not releasing the movie until after the big event, meaning nobody will receiving the record-breaking film in their stocking this year.

A source told icymi.co.uk “the bad news is, Barbie fans who are keen to own the DVD are going to have to wait until after Christmas to get their hands on it, but the good news is, it will be out in time for them to see out 2023 with Ken and Barbie!”

Whilst the DVD isn’t out until 31st, icymi understands it will be available earlier in December for fans to rent or buy via on-demand services including Rakuten TV and Sky Store.

The film, starring Margo Robbie and Ryan Gosling is currently No.1 around the world, having taken $214 million during its first five days at the domestic box office. The film has amassed more than $470 million globally.

In Barbie, Barbie and Ken are having the time of their lives in the colorful and seemingly perfect world of Barbie Land. However, when they get a chance to go to the real world, they soon discover the joys and perils of living among humans.

Discussing the film before it’s release, Director Greta Gerwig said: “I had what felt like vertigo when starting to write it, like, where do you even begin? What would be the story? I knew that it would be really interesting terror. Usually that’s where the best stuff is. Anything where I’m like this could be a career ender – I probably should do it.”

Barbie is available to pre-order on DVD, here.
