Millions watch Wimbledon and Euros 2024 on the BBC

Millions of people across the UK tuned into the BBC via TV, iPlayer, Sounds, and the website to follow an action-packed day of sport, featuring the Euro 2024 final and the Wimbledon Men’s final.

A peak of 19.3 million viewers, with an average audience of 17.9 million, watched Spain play England across all screens.

The final reached a peak TV audience of 17.8 million on BBC One, with a TV audience share of 63%.

England’s heartbreaking loss was also streamed 7.6 million times on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport Online.

Earlier, in a triumphant day for Spain, Carlos Alcaraz retained his men’s singles Wimbledon title with a dominant display, defeating Novak Djokovic in straight sets.

The men’s singles final peaked at 7.5 million viewers on BBC One and was streamed live 3.3 million times on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport Online.

The combined reach (15 minutes or more) for the BBC’s Sunday of sport across both tournaments was 23.5 million. For both tournaments as a whole on the BBC, the reach was 41.9 million.

Additionally, a gripping Wimbledon women’s final on Saturday saw Barbara Krejcikova defeat Jasmine Paolini for her second Grand Slam singles title. This match had a TV peak of 4.1 million viewers and was streamed 1.9 million times across BBC Sport Online and BBC iPlayer, an increase from last year’s women’s final.
