More than 20 million have now watched Wallace and Gromit and the Gavin and Stacey finale
The latest 28-day viewing figures confirm that Gavin and Stacey: The Finale has reached an incredible 20.9 million viewers, while Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl has surpassed the 20-million mark with an impressive 21.6 million viewers. The latter has seen a significant boost in popularity, especially among children, as audiences continue to enjoy this beloved content on iPlayer and BBC channels.
These two standout shows highlight the strength of British storytelling and the enduring affection for their iconic characters. Together, they’ve achieved Christmas Day viewership numbers not seen in two decades.
The record-breaking figures make them the UK’s most-watched scripted and animated programs since modern records began in 2002. In an era of endless viewing options, these shows have brought people together like only the BBC can, showcasing the brilliance of homegrown talent.
Charlotte Moore, BBC’s Chief Content Officer, said: “These figures have exceeded all expectations. To surpass 20 million viewers in 2025 is truly astonishing. These two quintessentially British shows couldn’t be more different, but they share an exceptional quality and are the best in their class.
“I am in awe of the creative brilliance of Aardman, Nick Park, Merlin Crossingham, Ruth Jones, and James Corden. It has been a privilege to work with them over the years and support their remarkable talents.”
Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham remarked: “Well butter me crumpets, Gromit! We’re absolutely honoured and blown away by these incredible viewing figures. To know our clay heroes mean so much to audiences on the BBC is the ultimate thrill.”
Ruth Jones and James Corden added: “This is a huge testament to the BBC, achieving such outstanding Christmas Day viewership. We’re incredibly proud to have been part of it.”
These achievements cap off a phenomenal year for the BBC. Not only did it enjoy its best-ever Christmas, claiming the top 10 shows on Christmas Day for the first time, but it also grew its audience share more than any other broadcaster or streaming service in 2024.
