Netflix has released the first trailer for Ricky Gervais’ new animated comedy series Alley Cats, giving fans their first proper look at the comedian’s star-studded feline adventure ahead of its summer debut. Watch it below.
Ricky Gervais’ Alley Cats trailer is here!
- The first trailer for Alley Cats was released today by Netflix.
- The animated comedy has been created, written and directed by Ricky Gervais.
- The series features a voice cast including Tom Basden, Diane Morgan, Kerry Godliman and David Earl.
- Alley Cats premieres on Netflix on August 7, 2026.
- Gervais says he has never been more excited for fans to see a trailer.
The first footage from Alley Cats introduces viewers to a colourful cast of mischievous felines, led by Gervais’ own character – a chubby orange cat in the long tradition of sarcastic cartoon cats such as Garfield and Heathcliff.
The comedian shared his excitement about the series in a statement released on Monday.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited about a trailer,” Gervais, the show’s creator, writer and director said in a statement shared with the media on Monday. “I can’t wait for everyone to get to know these cats.”
Alley Cats marks Gervais’ latest collaboration with Netflix following the success of After Life and his stand-up specials for the streaming giant.
The animated comedy has been co-directed by Elliot Dear, while Gervais serves as creator, writer and director. Steven Hamilton Shaw, James Stevenson Bretton and Ben Lole are executive producers, with Hugo Donkin producing the series.
Animation is being handled by Blink Industries, with Tang Heng serving as production designer.
The impressive voice cast includes Tom Basden, Andrew Brooke, David Earl, Kerry Godliman, Jo Hartley and Diane Morgan, while EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy and actor Tony Way also feature.
Although Netflix has kept many plot details under wraps, the trailer suggests Alley Cats will deliver the kind of sharp humour and eccentric characters that fans have come to expect from Gervais’ work.
With the first footage now finally unveiled, anticipation is likely to build quickly ahead of the series’ launch later this summer.
Alley Cats premieres on Netflix on August 7, 2026.
