Jamie Dorna’s drama The Tourist is coming to Netflix in the US

The Tourist will be on Netflix from February

Jamie Dornan’s BBC drama The Tourist has been acquired by Netflix for viewers in the U.S.

Series one launched with 11.4 million viewers in the UK and holds the title as the UK’s most-watched drama of 2022 across all platforms. Internationally, sales for the first series spanned five continents, with the show seen from South Korea to Scandinavia and was crowned the winner of three Golden Nymph Awards at the Monte Carlo Television Festival including Best Series, the festival’s highest accolade.

Full of shocking, surprising, funny and brutal turns, The Tourist is set in a world populated by quirky, enigmatic characters and off-beat comedy punctuates high-stakes action. At its heart however, is a story of self-discovery with a ticking timebomb underneath: as The Man starts to uncover the mystery of who he was, he’s also forced to ask who he is now – and fast. Will he unlock the secrets of his identify before those who are trying to kill him catch up with him?

The Tourist also stars Danielle Macdonald (Unbelievable, Dumplin’, Patti Cakes), Shalom Brune-Franklin (Line of Duty, Roadkill), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Trapped, The Missing) and Alex Dimitriades (The End, The Cry). Damon Herriman (Mindhunter, Justified) has also joined the series playing Lachlan Rogers, replacing Hugo Weaving who departed the production due to scheduling issues.

After their adventure in the Australian Outback, The Tourist’s epic second series follows Dornan and Macdonald’s characters Elliot and Helen as they travel to Ireland together. In an attempt to rediscover Elliot’s roots following his memory loss, they’re dragged into the dangerous whirlwind of his past life and are confronted by friends and foes both old and new, including Niamh Cassidy (Olwen Fouéré) and the McDonnell family – Donal (Diarmaid Murtagh), Orla (Nessa Matthews), Fergal (Mark McKenna), and Frank (Francis Magee). Detective Ruairi Slater (Conor MacNeill) becomes embroiled in the crossfire between the McDonnells and the Cassidys as the secrets of the family rivalry unravel.

Harry and Jack Williams, Writers and Managing Directors of Two Brothers Pictures says: “We’re so excited to take Elliot and Helen to Ireland, where they will meet a host of dark and off beat new characters. With a stellar cast to match, we can’t wait for it all to be brought to life.”

Sarah Hammond and Daniel Walker, Executive Producers for Two Brothers Pictures says: “Harry & Jack create worlds and characters like no one else – and this series of the Tourist is no different. We’re delighted to have drawn such a talented cast and crew to deliver on this fresh and exciting second series.”

Both series will be available to stream on Netflix in the U.S. from Februar 2024.
