Looking to get away this winter? We’ve got three ideas for fantastic getaways that you won’t want to miss…
Winter in the Med
Small ship line Windstar Cruises is now sailing full-time in the Mediterranean with loads of new itineraries during the winter season. This means fewer crowds, access to holiday markets/festivals, and less expensive airfare. Plus a chance to be there in a time when the locals actually want tourists!
Why Idaho is This Season’s Top Ski Destination
Sun Valley will be hosting the 2025 Alpine World Cup Finals in March, marking the first time Idaho has rolled out the “magic carpet” for the final event in the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup since 1977. The competition will take place over two weekends, March 22-27, and include both men’s and women’s racing.
Tamarack is a destination ski (+ golf + lake) resort just 2 hours from Boise with more reasons to visit than ever. But this young resort has a wild history. It went bankrupt – their award-winning golf course went to seed just shortly after it opened in 2004 as the recession took its toll, and the lifts were even repossessed. But the golf course reopened this summer; a gorgeous mid-mountain lodge is set to open for this ski season; and the base area is now vibrant with several restaurants, pubs, and retail spots.
Nearby Brundageski resort is also making big moves. Their 17,000-square-foot Mountain Adventure Center (new resort base area) opens this season, among a ton of on-mountain improvements (like a new high-speed quad that opened last season). For a luxurious stay including skier shuttles to and from the resort, book a room at the tony Shore Lodge (and don’t miss the spa).
Not a skier but still like winter? An iconic Idaho outing is to visit Burgdorf Hot Springs, which can only be reached via a snowmobile in winter. Or consider trying your hand at ice fishing, soaking at a destination hot springs and ordering a Hot Toddy as you relax/take in the mountain views, overnighting in the backcountry in a private yurt (complete with a sauna), or trying these other fun winter activities in/near Boise.
Why Aspen is the Perfect Place for the Holidays
And finally, the Aspen Meadows Resort. They have huge, newly renovated rooms; convenient skier shuttles; complimentary snowshoes; a new ski concierge; and a cafe that is fresh for the season. Perfect for any roundups on best ski resorts for families, including super fun scavenger hunts with prizes, or best ski hotels for friends / group getaways. And loads of holiday programming.
