Truelove is a brand new original drama, streaming tonight at 9pm on Channel 4.
From the creative minds behind the acclaimed BAFTA Award-winning series, “The End of the F***ing World,” emerges a compelling drama featuring Lindsay Duncan and Clarke Peters. The narrative revolves around a close-knit group of aging friends who, out of a shared commitment to preserve dignity, form a solemn pact. Instead of enduring a harrowing decline, they pledge to orchestrate a more graceful exit, symbolizing their concept of ‘Truelove.’
Phil (played by Duncan) boasts a distinguished career in the police force but finds herself languishing in the throes of boredom after 13 years of retirement. Ken (portrayed by Peters), a solitary SAS veteran, shares a similar sense of aimlessness. The two reunite for the first time in years at a friend’s funeral, where, amidst the drunken wake, they and their companions take turns envisioning what a dignified death entails, prioritizing the quality of years over sheer quantity.
As fate would have it, Phil and Ken emerge as the ideal duo to assist any ailing friends in fulfilling their pact. Ken, with his military background, could handle the act itself, while Phil, drawing upon her detective skills, could skillfully cover up the crime, orchestrating a scenario that appears to be a natural departure. In essence, it becomes a reversal of their former police work.
What begins as a jest swiftly transforms into reality when their dear friend Tom (played by Karl Johnson) requests that they make the ultimate sacrifice. The story unfolds further in the upcoming episodes, promising intrigue and moral dilemmas as the characters navigate the complex terrain of life, death, and friendship. The journey continues tomorrow.
