Streaming Today: Good Grief

Good Grief is the new original film from Dan Levy, best known for his role in Schitt’s Creek.

Marc (Dan Levy) was content living in the shadow of his larger-than-life husband, Oliver (Luke Evans). But when Oliver unexpectedly dies, Marc’s world shatters, sending him and his two best friends, Sophie (Ruth Negga) and Thomas (Himesh Patel), on a soul-searching trip to Paris that reveals some hard truths they each needed to face.

“Good Grief is a cautionary tale about friendship and loss and all the mess that comes with it when the truth is something you’ve evaded for most of your life,” Levy told Netflix’s Tadum blog. “It’s funny, it’s bittersweet, it’s a project that’s helped me work through my own grief. And I hope it does the same for other people as well.”

Alongside Luke Evans, who plays Marc’s late husband Oliver, the central cast made some time before filming to build real connections. ““Because we were shooting in London, I booked us into Soho Farmhouse and took us to the countryside in those early days to build some chemistry that didn’t even really need to be built,” Levy said. “It was already there. We had the loveliest time, and we rehearsed for two weeks, and there was just such love and warmth there. And it really made the editing process easy because you see it, you feel that chemistry, you feel their love for each other.”

The film is streaming now on Netflix.
