Preview: The Canary Islands with Jane McDonald is coming to Channel 5!

The Canary Islands with Jane McDonald is new to Channel 5 at 9pm this Friday!

Embarking on an island-hopping expedition through the Canaries, Jane uncovers the hidden treasures awaiting discovery at each destination.

Upon reaching Tenerife, Jane lodges in Playa de las Americas. Venturing to the island’s north, she ascends Mount Teide via an eight-minute cable car ride with the assistance of local guide Steve. At the summit, she breathes in the crisp air, marvels at the panoramic views, and descends to a traditional Canarian restaurant in the company of Steve and his friend Laura. Together, they savor local delicacies like potatoes, garlic dip, and cheese.

Joining fellow hotel guests Angie and Alison, Jane explores a nearby banana plantation. Guided by Anna, they gain insights into banana cultivation, discovering the intriguing fact that banana bunches are all female. Sampling bananas and various banana-derived products, such as banana wine and banana jam, they delve into the rich offerings of this tropical fruit. Later that day, Jane rendezvous with Angie and Alison at the rooftop pool, sharing drinks and learning about Angie’s fondness for Tenerife.

The following day, Jane boards a ferry to La Gomera, where she engages in basket weaving using locally grown date palm plants. Additionally, she tries her hand at Silbo, the unique local whistling language originally employed by shepherds to communicate across mountainous terrain.

To cap off her adventure, Jane, accompanied by fellow holidaymakers Les and June, visits Siam Water Park. There, she leisurely floats down the lazy river, conquers one of the towering slides, and gleefully leaps into the waves generated by the artificial beach’s wave maker.
