Bored of the same of Christmas movies? Here’s a few which are new for 2024.
Much as we love Love Actually and enjoy Elf, we do also like to see something new at Christmas time. Thankfully, there are some great new festive offerings which you can enjoy this year. Here’s the best ones…
That Christmas (Netflix)
“That Christmas” is a 2024 animated holiday film directed by Simon Otto, based on the children’s book trilogy by Richard Curtis. Released on Netflix, the movie weaves together heartfelt, intertwined stories of love, family, and friendship in the festive coastal town of Wellington-on-Sea. Featuring the voices of Brian Cox, Bill Nighy, and Jodie Whittaker, the narrative explores themes of connection and resilience amidst unexpected challenges, such as a historic snowstorm.
The film is complemented by an original score by John Powell and includes a poignant song, “Under the Tree,” by Ed Sheeran. As both humorous and touching, the movie aims to become a new Christmas classic for families.
Dear Santa (Paramount Plus)
When a young boy sends his Christmas wish-list to Santa with one crucial spelling error, a devilish Jack Black arrives to wreak havoc on the holidays! The film is certified PG.
Our Little Secret (Netflix)
Two resentful exes — Avery (Lindsay Lohan) and Logan (Ian Harding) — are forced to spend Christmas under the same roof after discovering that their current partners are siblings.
Lohan and Harding are the heart of the film. Though they’ve been apart for some time, Logan knows Avery better than anyone else. “Logan remembers and adores a lot of what makes Avery, well, Avery,” Harding says. That includes “[her] deep love of snacks and coffee and the inability to realize that she will most likely be cold in any temperature under 70 degrees.
In the middle of Our Little Secret is Erica Morgan (Holidate’s Kristin Chenoweth), the matriarch of all this yuletide mess. “There’s a lot of surprise family six-degrees-of-separation issues ahead, which is fun to play,” Chenoweth tells Tudum.
An Almost Christmas Story (Disney+)
“An Almost Christmas Story” follows Moon, a curious young owl who unexpectedly finds himself stuck in a Christmas tree destined for Rockefeller Plaza. In his attempts to escape the bustling city, Moon befriends a lost little girl named Luna.
Together, they embark on a heartwarming adventure, discovering the magic of the holiday season and forming an unlikely bond as they journey back home to their parents.
Nutcrackers (Hulu / Disney Plus)
Just as Mike (Stiller) is on the heels of closing the biggest deal of his career, he’s pulled away from his bachelor life in the big city to a farm in rural Ohio in order to take care of his recently orphaned nephews. The four rowdy boys cause trouble every which way they turn. What Mike thought was going to be a quick trip turns into an unexpected adventure.
As the holidays approach, he discovers the big hearts behind the boys’ mischief. This forces him to decide between his career and being the uncle his nephews need him to be.
The Merry Gentlemen (Netflix)
Netflix does its own take on Magic Mike with this brand new feel-good comedy/drama. To save her parents’ small-town performing venue, a former big-city dancer decides to stage an all-male, Christmas-themed revue.
Red One (cinemas)
After Santa Claus – Code Name: RED ONE – is kidnapped, the North Pole’s Head of Security (Dwayne Johnson) must team up with the world’s most infamous bounty hunter (Chris Evans) in a globe-trotting, action-packed mission to save Christmas.
