Olympic champion Tom Daley takes on his first major presenting role in Game of Wool, an 8×60’ series produced by Glasgow-based Hello Halo. Tom will guide 10 talented knitters as they tackle intricate challenges, all vying to be crowned the UK’s first-ever TV knitting champion.
Set against the stunning backdrop of rural Scotland, a region rich in knitting and wool heritage, each episode will feature two key challenges:
- The Group Knit: Teams collaborate on ambitious, highly complex projects.
- The Individual Knit: Competitors face unique briefs designed to push their creativity and technical skills to the limit.
The knitters will craft an array of extraordinary wool-based creations, from clothing and jewelry to furniture, home décor, sculptures, and even bold yarn bombing installations.
Expert Judges
Overseeing the competition are two renowned figures in the world of knitting, Di Gilpin and Sheila Greenwell. With a wealth of experience working for top fashion brands like Chanel, Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith, and NIKE, Di and Sheila bring their expertise to the judging panel. Di will evaluate the contestants’ creative approaches, while Sheila will focus on technique.
Tom Daley Shares His Excitement
Tom Daley said:
“I am very excited, and slightly nervous, to be taking on my first ever hosting role on a project that encompasses everything I’m passionate about. I adore all things knitting and encourage everyone to pick up some knitting needles and give it a go! I cannot wait to see the creations our knitters will weave together, and I hope this inspires people at home to get involved too!”
Behind the Scenes
Executive Producer Wendy Rattray added:
“We’re thrilled to have Tom as our host—there really couldn’t be a better fit. He’s become as celebrated for his knitting as he is for his Olympic diving! Knitting is for everyone, and Tom reflects a new generation of crafters letting their imaginations run wild with yarn.”
