The Rig season 2 trailer released by Prime Video

Prime Video has revealed the official trailer, key art, and release date for the second season of The Rig, a much-anticipated UK Original thriller. The six-episode series, filmed at First Stage Studios in Edinburgh, Scotland, will premiere globally on January 2, 2025, on Prime Video. To mark the occasion, the cast reunited for a special screening at The Everyman in Edinburgh earlier today.

The returning cast includes Iain Glen (Game of Thrones), Martin Compston (Line of Duty), Emily Hampshire (Schitt’s Creek), Rochenda Sandall (Criminal: UK), Owen Teale (Game of Thrones), Mark Addy (Game of Thrones), Molly Vevers (The Spanish Princess), Abraham Popoola (Cruella), Nikhil Parmar (Foundation), and Stuart McQuarrie (Des). Joining them are new cast members Ross Anderson (The Last Kingdom), Phil McKee (Deadwater Fell), Jacob Fortune-Lloyd (The Queen’s Gambit), Johannes Roaldsen Fürst (Hvite gutter), and Alice Krige (Star Trek).

At the event, Martin Compston shared his enthusiasm, calling the series “one of the greatest jobs to have been part of” and adding, “I really think this new series has stepped up this time, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

Season two picks up with the survivors of the Kinloch Bravo crew arriving at a secret offshore facility known as the Stac, set within the perilous landscapes of the Arctic Circle. As they grapple with the emotional and physical aftermath of the tsunami that destroyed the Bravo, they face mounting conspiracies, corporate intrigue, and fresh dangers emerging from the ocean’s depths. The series delves into global issues, seamlessly blending the past, present, and future while spotlighting cutting-edge ocean technology and the contentious realm of deep-sea mining.

The Rig is produced by Wild Mercury Productions (part of Banijay UK), written by David Macpherson, and directed by John Strickland (Line of Duty, Bodyguard) and Alex Holmes (The Letter for the King). Executive producers include Derek Wax, David Macpherson, and John Strickland, with Suzanne Reid serving as series producer and Matt Brown as co-producer.
