ITV’s Director of Drama Polly Hill and Senior Drama Commissioner Helen Ziegler have announced Saviour, a fresh and gripping take on the crime and courtroom genre. Produced by Nisha Parti’s Parti Productions and co-produced with Drama Republic (Doctor Foster, The English), the series marks the screenwriting debut of criminal barrister and novelist Imran Mahmood (You Don’t Know Me).

Nisha Parti expressed her gratitude:
“I’m incredibly thankful to Polly Hill and ITV for believing in our script and supporting this compelling story. I’ve always loved courtroom dramas, and it’s exciting to present a new, authentic perspective with such a talented team behind us.”

Polly Hill added:
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Nisha and Imran on this original series. The script hooks you from the start with its compelling case and introduces an incredible new lead character in Indy. Imran’s legal expertise brings authenticity to a story full of twists and surprises that audiences will love.”

About Saviour

The drama follows Ben, a promising medical student whose life takes a dark turn after a fancy-dress party. Dressed as a police officer, Ben witnesses an attack on Xenia, a woman he admires, and feels compelled to intervene. When the confrontation escalates into a deadly encounter in a tunnel, Ben emerges as the sole survivor. Panicked, he calls his father, Eddie—a respected police officer—who instructs him on his next steps.

Parallel to Ben’s turmoil, the series introduces Indy, a rising star in the legal world. A criminal barrister admired for her tenacity and skill, Indy is balancing a thriving career, a supportive husband Dev—a senior clinician—and their academically gifted teenage daughter, Nita. However, her seemingly perfect life begins to unravel when she takes on Ben’s case.

Facing allegations of murder, Ben conceals secrets, while Indy contends with police corruption, media scrutiny, and her own buried truths. As the drama unfolds, the story delves into the lengths people will go to protect those they love, with lives and reputations hanging in the balance.

Production Details

Imran Mahmood, who drew from his extensive experience as a criminal barrister, said:
“I’m excited to bring my first scripted TV series to ITV and Parti Productions. This is a unique opportunity to shine a light on the real workings of the criminal justice system—its strengths and its flaws—and the screen is the perfect medium to explore these themes.”

Nisha Parti, whose credits include the BAFTA-nominated The Boy with the Topknot, worked closely with Mahmood to ensure an authentic portrayal of the justice system. Acclaimed writer and producer Peter Moffat (Silk, Criminal Justice) joins as an executive producer alongside Parti.
