Ruth Jones is set to appear as her iconic character Nessa on the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ final to deliver the voting terms and conditions.
The popular BBC One show, hosted by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, has a tradition of featuring surprise celebrity guests for this segment. Last Saturday (7 December), Wallace and Gromit took on the role, and this week, Nessa will take center stage.
A source told The Sun: “The BBC has pulled out all the stops with ‘Strictly’ surprises this year, and having Ruth Jones appear as Nessa is the perfect touch. Last weekend’s Wallace and Gromit skit was a hit, and this Saturday’s appearance by Nessa will be just as exciting.”
The timing is ideal, as the final ‘Gavin and Stacey’ episode is set to air on Christmas Day. The BBC hopes the cameo will delight fans of both shows, offering a clever cross-promotion for its festive programming. “Strictly fans loved Wallace and Gromit, and we’re confident they’ll be thrilled to see Nessa pop up,” the source added.
The 58-year-old actress’ appearance will coincide with the final competition between JLS star JB Gill, ‘Miranda’ actress Sarah Hadland, ‘Love Island’ alum Tasha Ghouri, and comedian Chris McCausland, as they vie for the Glitterball Trophy.
Fans last saw the beloved Gavin and Stacey gang in a 2019 Christmas special. The sitcom, co-created by Ruth Jones and James Corden, left viewers on a cliffhanger after Nessa proposed to Smithy. Earlier this year, Ruth and James teased fans with an Instagram post revealing a new script, confirming the show’s long-awaited return.
Reflecting on the emotional farewell while filming the final episode, Ruth shared: “It was very emotional and lovely—like we were all saying goodbye to it together.”
