Guy Martin: Arctic Warrior is on Channel 4 tonight at 9pm.
Guy travels 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle to join the Royal Marines, the UK’s elite winter warfare specialists. Determined to see if he has what it takes to become a special operations commando, Guy delves into their grueling world, designed for operating in the most extreme conditions and countering threats from an increasingly aggressive Russia.
At Camp Viking, the Royal Marines’ base in Norway, where temperatures average minus 20°C, Guy lives alongside the commandos and participates in the annual Cold Weather Warfare Course. He faces intense challenges, including plunging into a frozen lake and surviving a night in the wilderness with fellow recruits.
The experience includes driving an all-terrain vehicle using night vision and joining the Commando Helicopter Force for a live mission aboard a helicopter gunship. Along the way, Guy investigates Russia’s strategic interest in the Arctic and the advanced weaponry they might deploy in a conflict over this vital region.
The concluding episode is on Channel 4 tomorrow night. Both episodes will be available to stream straight after episode one transmits.
