Death in Paradise 2024 Christmas Special to air Boxing Day

Death in Paradise cast and air date confirmed for this year’s Christmas episode.

The sun-drenched shores of Saint Marie are preparing to welcome viewers once again this festive season with the highly anticipated Death in Paradise Christmas special. Airing on Boxing Day, this year’s episode promises intrigue, drama, and holiday cheer with an impressive guest cast and a brand-new detective inspector taking charge.

A Star-Studded Christmas Cast for Death in Paradise

This year’s special boasts an exceptional line-up of guest stars: Jim Howick (Ghosts), Angela Griffin (The Wives), Marcus Brigstocke (The Unbelievable Truth), Steven Hartley (Happy Valley), Elizabeth Carling (Hotel Portofino), Michael Salami (Supacell), and Dex Lee (Doctors). Together, they’ll bring a touch of festive drama to the Caribbean mystery series.

Jim Howick is pictured against a striking coastal backdrop, standing confidently with his hands on his hips. Meanwhile, Angela Griffin smiles warmly in a nighttime scene, phone in hand. The cast is ready to deliver their Christmas best, joined by series regulars including Don Warrington as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, Shantol Jackson as DS Naomi Thomas, Ginny Holder as Officer Darlene Curtis, and Élizabeth Bourgine as Catherine Bordey.

The special also sees the return of Danny John-Jules as Officer Dwayne Myers, who is reunited with his father, Nelson, played by Ram John Holder.

The festive episode marks the debut of Don Gilet (Sherwood, EastEnders) as Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson. A Londoner by birth, DI Wilson isn’t afraid to shake things up, clashing with the laid-back rhythm of life on Saint Marie. But his first case is a doozy: an impossible murder involving three victims, all dressed as Santa Claus, all shot with the same gun at the same time.

As DI Wilson dives headfirst into unraveling this baffling crime, his unconventional methods test the patience of his team. Meanwhile, Dwayne’s efforts to enjoy a quiet Christmas with his father are anything but smooth sailing.

The special, filmed on the stunning French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, promises the perfect blend of mystery, escapism, and plot twists, all set against a breathtaking tropical backdrop. From Marcus Brigstocke donning a Santa suit to Steven Hartley’s character caught seaside in festive attire, the holiday spirit will be front and center—along with the series’ trademark humor and drama.

Following its holiday airing, Death in Paradise returns for its 14th season in 2025. Fans can look forward to more gripping cases and character dynamics in what has become the UK’s most-watched returning drama of the year. With over 230 territories airing the series, and spin-offs like Beyond Paradise and Return to Paradise capturing global audiences, the Death in Paradise franchise is stronger than ever.

Tune in this Boxing Day on BBC One and BBC iPlayer to enjoy a feature-length special filled with sun, mystery, and holiday surprises. Every episode of Death in Paradise is also available to binge on BBC iPlayer—perfect for catching up before the new series.
