Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo to perform at 2025 OSCARS

‘Wicked’ stars are being lined up to sing ‘Defying Gravity at next year’s OSCARS ceremony.

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are slated to take the stage at the 2025 Academy Awards for a highly-anticipated performance of “Defying Gravity” from the hit musical Wicked.

The news comes as the film adaptation of the Broadway sensation continues to break records at the box office.

Oscars live performance of Defying Gravity in 2025

Grande, who plays Glinda, and Erivo, who stars as Elphaba in the Wicked films, have already generated immense excitement for their portrayals of the iconic characters. A proposed OSCARS duet would be a highlight of the ceremony, celebrating the magic and cultural impact of the long-awaited adaptation.

The performance marks a milestone moment, as Wicked has been a Broadway staple for two decades, with “Defying Gravity” widely considered its anthem. The song, which encapsulates themes of empowerment and self-discovery, is a fitting choice to honor the movie’s release and its potential impact on the awards season. It would be the first time the actresses have performed it live.

While the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has not yet commented, industry insiders suggest the performance could be part of a larger tribute to musicals and/or diversity in film. The 2025 Oscars will be held in March at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, promising a star-studded evening.

The Wicked movies, directed by Jon M. Chu, are among the most anticipated releases of the decade, with Part One premiering in November 2024 and Part Two following ion 21 November 2025. With this Oscars announcement, the countdown to the Wicked phenomenon continues to soar to new heights.
