Apple TV+ has unveiled an exclusive first look at the highly anticipated second season of the psychological thriller Surface. Starring and executive produced by Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and created by Veronica West, the new season shifts the story to a fresh setting as Sophie (Mbatha-Raw) continues her search for the truth in her hometown of London. The eight-episode season premieres globally on Friday, February 21, 2025, with new episodes releasing weekly through April 11, 2025.
In this new chapter, Sophie ventures to London, determined to uncover the mysteries of her past. After an injury erased her memories, she uses her considerable stolen resources to infiltrate elite British society. A connection to a stunning heiress begins to reveal some answers, but Sophie’s journey takes a dangerous turn when a journalist unexpectedly contacts her. She learns they were once allies, working together to expose a shocking scandal involving the very people she now associates with.
To prepare for the new season, fans can revisit the story with a season one recap, available ahead of the February 21 premiere on Apple TV+.
Returning cast members Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Millie Brady join an expanded ensemble that includes Phil Dunster, Gavin Drea, Rupert Graves, Tara Fitzgerald, Nina Sosanya, Joely Richardson, and Freida Pinto.
Produced by Apple Studios and Hello Sunshine, Surface was created by Veronica West, who serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter executive produce on behalf of Hello Sunshine, alongside Mbatha-Raw. Season two features direction from Ed Lilly, Jon East, Lynsey Miller, and Alrick Riley.
Following its debut, Surface was praised as “captivating,” “twisty and juicy,” and a “sexy, elevated thriller.” Season two promises to deepen the intrigue with more mystery, drama, and suspense.
