Match of the Day will be presented by Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman, and Gabby Logan as its presenters from next season.
For the first time, three presenters will share the lead role across the BBC’s iconic Premier League highlights shows, including Match of the Day, Match of the Day 2, and the new addition to the lineup, Match of the Day Champions League.
This distinguished trio, who are also prominent in other areas of BBC Sport, will headline the broadcaster’s exceptional football team, which includes Alan Shearer, Micah Richards, Alex Scott, Jason Mohammad, Kelly Somers, John Murray, and Steve Crossman.
Gary Lineker, stepping down from Match of the Day after 26 years, will remain a key figure at BBC Sport, continuing to present the men’s FA Cup and the men’s 2026 World Cup.
Having first aired in 1964, Match of the Day is in its sixth generation of main presenters and remains as cherished today as ever. Last season, 33 million viewers tuned in across all Match of the Day Premier League and FA Cup broadcasts on BBC TV and iPlayer, with millions more engaging through the BBC Sport website, app, and social media platforms.
Gabby Logan, also a central figure in the BBC’s rugby and athletics coverage, reflected on the role’s significance: “[Sitting in the chair] is always a special moment because of its history. It remains so relevant in today’s changing TV landscape and continues to bring people together to enjoy the key football moments.”
Kelly Cates, who will continue her work with Sky Sports alongside her BBC role, expressed excitement: “When the theme music starts, it’s going to be an incredible moment. Collaborating with Gabby and Mark, as well as the brilliant pundits, makes this an exciting opportunity to deliver a comprehensive football experience for fans.”
Mark Chapman emphasized teamwork in his comments: “This isn’t just about the three of us—it’s about everyone involved, from pundits and editors to analysts and production teams. It’s an honour to follow in the footsteps of those who built this legacy.” He will also continue hosting his regular programmes on BBC Radio 5 Live.
Alex Kay-Jelski, Director of BBC Sport, praised the new team: “Viewers will love these three exceptional broadcasters at the forefront of our football coverage. Gary has set a high standard over the last 26 years, and while he will be greatly missed, fans can look forward to his continued presence during major tournaments.”
BBC Sport remains a central hub for football fans across the UK, offering Match of the Day coverage, Champions League highlights, FA Cup, Women’s Super League, and live radio commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live. The upcoming Women’s Euro 2025 in Switzerland will also see the BBC providing comprehensive live coverage across TV, radio, and online as the Lionesses aim to defend their title as European champions.
