The popular crime drama Death in Paradise, produced by Red Planet Pictures, is set to brighten up the end of January by returning to BBC One and BBC iPlayer with a brand-new series on Friday, 31 January 2025, at 9pm.
This season takes us back to the idyllic island of Saint Marie, where a new Detective Inspector, Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet), takes the lead. However, following the dramatic conclusion of the “Who Shot the Santas?” case and the loss of his estranged mother, Mervin is ready to leave the island for good. But a new, emotionally charged case may persuade him to stay longer than he planned.
As DI Wilson shakes up the team, the police force works together to crack some of Saint Marie’s most baffling mysteries. The series will also feature an impressive lineup of guest stars, including Tobi Bakare reprising his role as Sergeant JP Hooper, Michelle Greenidge, Joy Richardson, Stephen Odubola, Anthony J. Abraham, Bhavna Limbachia, Adam James, David Avery, and many more.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) is faced with a major shake-up from the Chief Commissioner in Jamaica, threatening the core of the police department. Mayor Catherine Bordey (Elizabeth Bourgine) steps up to defend the team in a fight to preserve their unity.
The characters also face personal challenges: Naomi (Shantol Jackson) is confronted by the return of a former love, Darlene (Ginny Holder) navigates her role as a mentor to a new recruit, and Mervin begins to uncover startling secrets about his late mother’s life and Saint Marie itself, leaving him to question everything he thought he knew.
The series has been a tremendous success, with the 2024 season being the UK’s most-watched returning drama across all platforms, reaching over 8 million viewers. The Death in Paradise franchise has grown globally, licensed in over 230 territories, and recently expanded with the spin-off Beyond Paradise in 2023 and Return to Paradise, an Australia-set spin-off for ABC.
Filmed on the stunning French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, Death in Paradise continues to captivate audiences worldwide with its unique mix of mystery and charm.
