Grantchester, 9pm on ITV1

A family Sunday at the vicarage is disrupted when Geordie [Robson Green] is called to investigate the death of a hotel manager and Will [Tom Brittney] and Bonnie [Charlotte Ritchie] discover an abandoned baby in the church.

Are these two occurrences simply isolated incidents, or are they connected in some way? Things are complicated further when Geordie is blindsided by Will and Bonnie’s news.

Surgeons: A Matter of Life and Death, 9pm on Channel 5

This week at the University Hospitals Birmingham, maxillofacial surgeons Sat Parmar and Tim Martin are confronting a huge challenge. Susan has been diagnosed with an aggressive cancer which is invading her face – starting in her upper jaw and spreading to her eye and into her nose. Without immediate surgical intervention, the fast-growing tumour could become inoperable within weeks. For Sat and Tim, cutting out this aggressive tumour is only half the battle. Removing it will leave a significant hole in Susan’s face, which is going to need complex reconstruction using bone and tissue from her hip. The operation is a high-risk surgical feat that will not only save Susan’s life, but preserve her ability to eat, drink, and speak as normal.

In theatre number 2, surgeon Raj Nijjar is operating on 80-year-old Maureen, whose entire stomach has moved up into her chest. As a result, her quality of life has been severely affected, with Maureen struggling to keep her food down. Raj needs to pull her stomach back down into her abdomen – but operating so close Maureen’s heart and lungs poses a substantial risk of serious damage to her vital organs.

In another part of the hospital, 25-year-old Charlotte is undergoing surgery to treat a debilitating facial paralysis which has blighted her life for three years. Surgeon Richard Irving suspects a virus is causing her facial nerve to swell and become constricted inside the tight, bony canal that it runs through. Each time she has an episode, Charlotte’s nerve struggles to recover leaving her at risk of permanent facial paralysis. The only option for Charlotte is for Richard to open her skull, lift her brain and drill down towards the facial nerve canal – a procedure which requires pinpoint precision to avoid damaging her balance, her hearing or further damage to her face.

Patience: The Missing Link, 9pm on Channel 4

Police crime drama set in York, starring Laura Fraser and Ella Maisy Purvis. The team are baffled when a young woman is found dead among the dinosaur display at a museum. The investigation leads them into the shadowy world of fossil smuggling, and Patience (Purvis) makes a startling deduction. Meanwhile, Detective Bea (Fraser) delves deeper into the world of neurodiversity and recognises parallels with her own family.
