Review: Blood Brothers at Curve – One of the best things you can see on stage ☆☆☆☆☆

Written by Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences.

Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi-award-winning Blood Brothers. Bill Kenwright’s production surpassed 10,000 performances in London’s West End, one of only three musicals ever to achieve that milestone. It has been affectionately christened the ‘Standing Ovation Musical’, as inevitably it “brings the audience cheering to its feet and roaring its approval” (The Daily Mail).

Our Verdict: Seeing Blood Brothers on stage is like seeing Ben Hur on the big screen. It’s one of the all time musical greats and there’s no wonder why it’s known for its standing ovations. It certainly deserved the one it received at Curve, Leicester.

Set against the backdrop of Liverpool, this poignant tale explores the timeless themes of love, fate, and the bonds of brotherhood.

One of the most striking aspects of “Blood Brothers” is its ability to evoke a wide range of emotions. From moments of heartwarming tenderness to gut-wrenching tragedy, the musical takes viewers on an emotional rollercoaster that leaves a lasting impact. Absolutely spectacular and completely faultless, you’d be hard pushed to find anything else like it. It felt like an honour to be able to see it outside of the West End, actually. The cast were just incredible. Every performance was delivered with so much heart and authenticity, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house watching them. The twins and the mother here were perhaps the best but really we are splitting hairs – everybody in this production shone.

As did the production, the lighting, staging and music. We don’t often mention set designs, but this is quite remarkable stuff. It’s just an incredible show and one that we feel priviliged to have seen.
