Rebus: Humax Weekend TV

Rebus is brand new to BBC Scotland and BBC One this weekend

Rebus starts 9pm Friday on BBC Scotland and 9pm Saturday on BBC One. Stream it on iPlayer.

Crime drama Rebus - a new adaptation of the international best-selling Inspector Rebus novels by award-winning author Ian Rankin – returns starring Richard Rankin in the title role.

Set in Edinburgh, the six-part series reimagines John Rebus as a younger Detective Sergeant drawn into a violent criminal conflict that turns personal when his brother Michael, a former soldier, crosses the line into criminality. Rebus finds himself torn between protecting his brother and enforcing the law to bring Michael to justice.

This epic series explores family, morality and class through an emotionally-charged story, set against the Scottish landmarks that Rankin’s readers know so well.

In this first episode, one year after a violent encounter with Edinburgh gangster Ger Cafferty, Detective Sergeant John Rebus and his new Constable, Siobhan Clarke, must investigate the public assault of one of Cafferty’s enforcers. Already struggling with the estrangement of his ex-wife Rhona and daughter Sammy, Rebus’s tense relationship with his poverty-stricken brother, Michael, worsens, and an increasingly humiliated Michael feels pressured to take desperate action to provide for his family.

Alongside Richard Rankin as DS John Rebus, the series also stars Lucie Shorthouse, Brian Ferguson, Amy Manson, Neshla Caplan, Noof Ousellam, Stuart Bowman, Caroline Lee Johnson, Sean Buchanan, Thoren Ferguson and Michelle Duncan.
