What to Watch tonight: The Hidden World of Hospitality with Tom Kerridge

icymiofficial.com Tonight at 9pm on BBC Two, Tom Kerridge meets The Beefy Boys in Hereford.

In this entertaining new series, Tom continues his deep dive into the industry he knows and loves. He meets brave and ambitious entrepreneurs looking to expand their business in the midst of some of the toughest economic conditions the industry has ever seen. In the high-risk game of hospitality, when do you twist, stick or fold?

For episode 2, Tom’s in Hereford, where he meets the Beefy Boys, a group of four mates who run two thriving burger joints with the plan to open a third in Cheltenham. What began as a hobby grew quickly into a meteoric rise when they won ‘Best Burger’ at the UK’s Grill Stock BBQ Competition, followed by entering the 2014 World Championships in Las Vegas.

Whilst their first two restaurants have been a runaway success, taking on a third site represents their biggest risk to date. They have taken on a lease in a prime location in Cheltenham and have agreed to keep some of the staff who worked for the previous restaurant tenants, and keep them on the payroll. It’s a race against time to renovate the restaurant, train new staff and have everything ready for opening night.

Gillian is about to embark on her biggest investment to date, an £800k tropical spa, housed in a vast glass geometric dome.

In Manchester, a very different story is unfolding at The Bull and Bear in the Stock Exchange Hotel owned by Gary Neville. No longer viable, the tough decision has been made to close the restaurant, another casualty of the pandemic and rising cost of living crisis. All that remains is for Gary and Tom to decide how they break the news to the industry and the public. In County Fermanagh, on the shores of Loch Earn, Gillian runs family owned Finn Lough, a remote spa and wellness retreat.
