Best TV Tonight: Silent Witness

The acclaimed crime drama, Silent Witness, returns with a riveting Series 27, tonight at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.

This series features five intense two-part mysteries for the skilled team at the Lyell Centre to unravel.

In this latest installment, pathologist Dr. Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox), along with forensic expert Jack Hodgson (David Caves) and their dedicated team, faces some of their most chilling cases yet. The mysteries include a body discovered in an abandoned church, sparking fears of a resurfaced serial killer two decades later. A wave of death terrifies a university campus, leaving no one safe. A forgotten mummified corpse is unearthed, multiple bodies are found entombed beneath a train station in a makeshift mass grave, and the Lyell Centre itself is infiltrated by a malevolent force.

The team, armed with their expertise, pushes their limits to unlock the truth. Gabriel seeks guidance from Jack in an unexpected manner, leading to a vulnerable moment at work with devastating consequences. Velvy attempts to do right by his family, facing significant personal costs. Cara, navigating the complexities of London student life, makes friends and enemies alike. Her work experience at the Lyell impresses Jack, and she finds herself compelled to intervene upon making a shocking discovery about Velvy. Meanwhile, Nikki and Jack confront one of the most challenging cases in their careers, strengthening their relationship in the process.

The investigation takes Nikki and Jack into a murder case reminiscent of a notorious serial killer. When Nikki encounters Charles Beck, the pathologist who conducted the original post-mortems, she learns that his wife was the suspected fifth victim of the serial killer. However, nobody believes Beck when he claims to know the whereabouts of her body, adding a layer of complexity to the already gripping story.
