Red One set to top weekend box office chart despite poor reviews
Red One is on course to top the global box office this weekend after taking more than $26million in takings since its release last Wednesday.
Starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans, Red One follows a family of thieves who come together for a high-stakes heist during the holiday season. The film also stars Kiernan Shipka, Lucy Liu, and Jingle Smith.
Despite its commercial success, Red One has been panned by critics for its predictable plot and overreliance on CGI. However, the film’s star power and festive theme have resonated with audiences, particularly families.
The film is set to beat Venom: The Last Dance, The Wild Robot and Heretic in this week’s global cinema chart although its success is likely to be short-lived; Paddington in Peru is set to overtake it in the week ahead.
Loveable bear Paddington returns to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now resides at the Home for Retired Bears. With the Brown Family in tow, a thrilling adventure ensues when a mystery plunges them into an unexpected journey through the Amazon rainforest and up to the mountain peaks of Peru.
This year’s biggest cinema release is likely to be Wicked, which will be released on 29 November.
