Radio 2 to air special shows live from Leicester

Jo Whiley and Jeremy Vine will host special editions of their BBC Radio 2 programmes live from Leicester.

The shows have been scheduled in the lead up to Radio 2 in the Park, the station’s biggest ever live event, which will broadcast live from Victoria Park in the centre of Leicester across the weekend of 16 and 17 September.

On the evening of Thursday 14 September, Jo will be joined by BBC Introducing expert Dean Jackson to chat about some of the great new music coming out of Leicester, and local artist Sekou performs live.

Dean Jackson has been involved in BBC Introducing from the very beginning. Having supported artists such as Ed Sheeran, Jake Bugg and Holly Humberstone, his shows have repeatedly shone light on local talent that deserves to go further. Last year BBC Introducing celebrated its 15th anniversary, and Dean hosted the celebration show, live from all 39 local stations simultaneously!

At just 18 years old, Sekou has already created waves in the music industry. Born and raised just outside of Leicester, his fan club includes Arlo Parks, Bruno Mars and Lewis Capaldi, to name just a few, and his performance on the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury last year was stunning. Sekou released his debut single Better Man in April this year, and joins Jo for a special live session.

Then on Friday 15 September, Jeremy Vine hosts a special edition of his lunchtime show, in which he’ll celebrate all things Leicester ahead of Radio 2 in the Park. With an array of Leicester guests, he'll look at its industry, sporting and musical heritage and its diversity.

On Monday 18 September, Zoe Ball is set to host the breakfast show live from the city.
