Pharrell Williams to guest on Jo Whiley’s Radio 2 show

Pharrell Williams will guest on Jo Whiley’s BBC Radio 2 show this Monday evening from 7.30pm.

Jo chats to musician, fashion designer and legendary producer Pharrell Williams about life, music and his new film Piece By Piece.

Pharrell Williams’ latest project, Piece by Piece, is a unique autobiographical film that brings his life story to audiences in an animated format, creatively using LEGO to represent his journey. Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville, the film tells Pharrell’s story through a LEGO minifigure version of himself, who reflects on his career, personal growth, and iconic achievements in music. Williams originally resisted the idea of a traditional documentary but was convinced by the flexibility to tell his story through animation and a LEGO format, which allowed for an innovative and playful approach to storytelling​​

The film incorporates scenes of Pharrell’s life, from his beginnings in Virginia Beach to his success in hip-hop and pop, emphasizing his work with The Neptunes and his evolution into a solo artist. Through Pharrell’s LEGO avatar, the film uses imaginative scenarios—like an underwater kingdom to reference his early career with The Neptunes, and a floating recording studio for his collaborations—to reflect the artist’s creativity and spirit.
