The Version: Channel 5 quiz show Puzzling is returning for a second series and a Christmas special.

The quiz has proved so popular with viewers, that the Channel is airing a repeat of each episode, which debuts at 8pm each Thursday night.

To find her champion, Lucy Worsley challenges every area of the player’s brains across five puzzling rounds testing language skills, calculation, lateral thinking, visual intelligence and memory.

At the start of each episode, six super smart strangers are split into two teams of three that try to accrue the most points through their powers of puzzling deduction. Then, in a dramatic twist, the winning team turn on each other to be named the best of the best and earn a place in the series Final where the Ultimate Puzzler will be crowned.

A source told The Version “It’s a no brainer that Channel 5 have already commissioned a second series, and there’s at least on Christmas episode planned”.

It’s likely the Christmas special, or specials. will feature a celebrity line-up.

The programme was commissioned by Channel boss Ben Frow, who wanted to establish the Channel’s own answer to BBC formats QI, University Challenge and Only Connect.

There’s no confirmation from production company 12 Yard yet, but an announcement is expected soon.
