At 8.35pm, Stock, Aitken and Waterman at the BBC recalls how it all started for Kylie - plus her label mates including Jason Donovan.
Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman were the producers who came, SAW and conquered the UK charts in the 1980s, spinning the music scene right round like a record with their instantly recognisable brand of disco floor-filling pop hits. The trio divided the nation between those who loved their Hi-NRG sound and the singers they transformed into tabloid sensations, and a music press that loathed them for turning record producing into a production line.
Today, many of SAW’s most memorable hits are considered classics of their time, and the very best of them are celebrated in this new selection, featuring such artists as Rick Astley, Dead or Alive, Donna Summer, Bananarama, Mel & Kim and, of course, Kylie and Jason.
At 10.05pm, there’s another chance to watch Kylie’s headline set from Radio 2 in the Park. Kylie performs tracks from The Locomotion through to Slow, Wow, Love At First Sight, Padam Padam, Tension and All The Lovers. Watch her duet with Jessie Ware and premiere a brand new song during the performance, recorded in Leicester.
Rounding off the night is Kylie at the BBC, at 11.15pm. Enjoy a journey back in time for a selection of Kylie’s best and biggest performances on the BBC.
It’s a journey from the early, girl-next-door days with Stock Aitken Waterman to the boundary-pushing dance sounds of the 90s, 00s and beyond. Along for the ride are some of the eclectic mix of stars Kylie has collaborated with over the years, including Robbie Williams, Nick Cave and Jason Donovan.
Together, this collection of magical BBC moments highlights why Kylie has always had a special place in the British public’s hearts.
The special night of programming marks the release of Kylie’s latest album, Tension, out on Friday. On the same night, she’ll be a guest on The Graham Norton Show.
