Leigh Francis makes brilliant debut on Virgin Radio

theversion.co Leigh Francis hosted the first of ten drivetime shows on Virgin Radio UK today.

Leigh Francis has joined the station to fill in for his friend Ricky Wilson, who hosts the stations 4pm - 7pm weekday slot. Leigh may be best known as Keith Lemon, but he’s presenting the shows under his real name.

Last week, Leigh joined presenter Jayne Middlemiss to share his nerves and excitement before taking to the mic. He said “I am looking forward to it,” Leigh said. “I'm a bit nervous because everyone keeps saying to me, ‘don't swear, don't swear’ like that's all I do! I'm telling my kids, I only swear when I'm being paid and I'm just doing this as a volunteer I think.”

“I’m actually doing it with my own mouth and my own mind,” he continued. “I expect my mind will veer off and I might become different people while I do it, just to make it more exhilarating."

Today Leigh sounded like the job was second nature to him, as he joked between songs from Ed Sheeran, Alanis Morisette, Pulp and Fergal Sharkey.

“I’ve had a lovely time today...and I’ll finish with the words of Keith Lemon ‘if I don’t see you next week, I’ll see you through window!” said Leigh as he signed off from his first show at 7pm.

Leigh is in for Ricky over the next fortnight, whilst Ricky covers for Chris Evans on Breakfast. Elsewhere on Virgin, Nick Grimshaw has returned to the station to cover for Graham Norton at the weekends.
