I'm A Celebrity bosses want Radio 1’s Dean McCullough

icymiofficial.com BBC Radio 1 DJ Dean McCullough is being lined up for I’m A Celebrity, as bosses look to emulate the success of casting Jordan North.

The 31 year old radio presenter enjoyed a meteoric rise in popularity at the station, landing the coverted role of replacing Scott Mills as host of the daily 1-3pm lunchtime slot. On landing the role, he said “I literally don’t know what to say, this is wild. Being given the opportunity to launch a brand new daytime show on Radio 1 with the most talented production team and co-host is a full on dream come true. Vicky and I did the Christmas presenter search together in 2020 and I loved her from the second I met her. It’s bittersweet because like so many millions of people I am a huge fan of Scott & Chris”.

“They are hands down the best at doing the radio, ever. I’m really going to miss them on Radio 1 and hope that their brilliant listeners join us for this new chapter in September. I’m so grateful that this is happening, thank you Radio 1 for believing in me.”

Dean presents his show with Vicky Hawksworth. Both Dean and Vicky were given their first opportunity to host on the station during the 2020 festive period as part of Radio 1’s Christmas Takeover - an initiative created by Head of BBC Radio 1, Aled Haydn Jones - which provides a valuable springboard for emerging presenters, giving them a once in a lifetime opportunity to broadcast on the UK’s biggest youth radio station.

Dean joined the station from Gaydio, a national LGBTQ+ station on which he presented the breakfast show.

He’s already dipped his toe into the world of TV, having appeared on E4’s Young Free & Single, which was presented by Steve Jones. He’s also appeared on Strictly: It Takes 2 and on ITV2’s CelabAbility. He voiced Untold, a late night documentary which recently aired on Channel 4.

Jordan North appeared on I’m A Celebrity back in 2020, as a last minute booking. He quickly became one of the programme’s most loved contestants, thanks to his kooky behaviour and comments. After appearing on the show, he became a regular presenter on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and has presented several series, including Project Icon for BBC Three. He presents Going Home with Vick and Jordan, alongside Vick Hope on Radio 1.

A source told icymi “Dean has a real cheeky charm and the gift of the gab, and bosses think he’ll be a brilliant successor to Jordan in the jungle this year”.

Listen to Dean via the BBC Sounds app on a Humax set-top box.
