Radio 2 to celebrate 100 Years of Hollywood

icymiofficial.com Film fans are in for a treat with a very special edition of Sunday Night is Music Night.

One hundred years ago, in 1923, a sign rose from the scrub on Mount Lee in Santa Monica advertising a new housing development called ‘Hollywood-land’. Few could have imagined that this dry piece of real estate would become the glittering movie capital of the world.

In a very special concert recorded for BBC Radio 2, a cast of over 80, including the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Mike Dixon, perform a unique cinematic concert from one of Europe’s most popular movie locations, the historic Floriana’s Fosos square in Malta, celebrating 100 years of tinsel-town in spectacular style.

Six outstanding West End soloists, Louise Dearman (Wicked) Gloria Onitiri (Bodyguard) Rebecca Trehearn (Bad Cinderella) Trevor Dion Nicholas (Aladdin) Jesse Smith (Led Zeppelin Symphonic) and Michael Xavier (Roman Holiday) together with chorus, Dynamic Vocals, led by Ben Francis, take us from the Golden Age to the present day. From the dancing feet of Astaire via Dirty Dancing and The Greatest Showman to the full-throttle sound of Top Gun: Maverick.

Presented by Star Wars legend Denis Lawson (Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Local Hero, Bleak House).

The episode will air at 8pm on Sunday, 13 August. It will be presented by Denis Lawson.
