Best TV on Tonight? Later with Jools

Later… with Jools Holland is on BBC Two tonight at 10.10pm.

Jools first welcomes British vocal powerhouse Jessie Ware, who returns with a couple of numbers from her disco infused fifth studio album That! Feels Good! The album is produced by James Ford and new collaborator Stuart Price. It sees her lean into a sound that follows her last What’s Your Pleasure? LP and harks back to her origins as a dance vocalist on early floor filler singles.

Making their debut, Dave Okumu & The 7 Generations are a group led by the prolific and revered producer, who has worked with the likes of Adele, Amy Winehouse and Jessie Ware and previously fronted The Invisible (nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2009). His latest critically-acclaimed album I Came From Love sees him collaborate with the likes of Grace Jones, Kwabs and ESKA, who performs with him tonight.

Brand new artist Olivia Dean, who grew up in East London, makes her TV debut on the show with her song Dive, taken from her forthcoming album Messy. She also joins Jools at the piano to discuss her favourite Carole King tune.

The third act to make their debut this week is The Waeve - a musical collaboration between Blur’s Graham Coxon and vocalist and musician Rose Elinor Dougall, once a member of The Pipettes. They perform a couple of tracks from their self-titled debut LP which sees their respective musical styles blend beautifully and has been described as an album of pastoral disquiet and itchy post-punk edge.

Returning to the show are Nottingham’s finest duo Sleaford Mods, fresh from a successful North American tour, which included a performance at Coachella. They stop by Alexandra Palace Theatre to perform a track from their latest Top 3 album, UK Grim, before jetting off to continue their world domination.

Plus Jools will also be chatting to legendary drummer Stewart Copeland, whose forthcoming new album Police Deranged For Orchestra sees him team up with an orchestra to rework some of the biggest hits written and recorded by The Police. He also shares rock n roll tales of the past, including when Jools and Stewart appeared together on BBC sitcom The Young Ones in 1984.

Episode one of this series featured performances from Hozier, Arlo Parks, Lisa O’Neill, Thee Sacred Souls and Venbee. Other artists featuring this series include Alison Goldfrapp, Baba Ali, Eddie Chacon, Elmiene, Far From Saints, Fatoumata Diawara, Gabriels, Gaz Coombes, Grian Chatten, Kara Jackson, Mahalia, Rodrigo y Gabriela, The Jordan and The Lathums. Plus, Jools will welcome Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds for a special one-off exclusive show.
