Best TV on tonight? Grand Designs: The STreets

The innovation and architectural daring shown at the UK's largest mass self-build site at Graven Hill has captured the imagination of councils countrywide. Across the British Isles, bold self-builders have been given a once-in-a-lifetime chance to build their wildest imaginings. In this third series, Kevin McCloud follows the development of some of these pioneering new projects, and revisits previous ambitious self-builds in Graven Hill and Glasgow with co-presenter Natasha Huq.

Each case captures the spirit of community that these streets engender, and the determination, resilience and ambition of the builders. When Jane and Richard met and fell for each other, Jane revealed that she was building her own home as part of a fresh start in York. Richard was inspired and decided to do the same, so, following in Jane's footsteps, he chose a plot three doors down on the same street.

Jane's plan is for a beautifully crafted home with an inviting high-end kitchen, while Richard's design will be minimal and sleek with some special architectural moments. Both houses will provide a new life for the five children they have between them, but quite how they'll live in them, they don't know yet. And if things don't work out, they might not want to live in them at all...
