Where to watch Jonathan Bailey in Richard II and how to get tickets

“Richard II” will premiere at the Bridge Theatre win London on February 10, 2025, featuring Jonathan Bailey in the title role. This new production is directed by Nicholas Hytner and tickets are already available via bridgetheatre.co.uk

Jonathan Bailey, known for his breakout role as Lord Anthony Bridgerton in the hit series “Bridgerton,” has also garnered acclaim for his performance in Showtime’s “Fellow Travelers.” He is set to star as Fiyero in the much-anticipated “Wicked” film, releasing later this year, and is currently filming “Jurassic World” with Scarlett Johansson. Bailey’s distinguished stage career includes playing Edgar alongside Ian McKellen’s King Lear and winning an Olivier Award for his role as Jamie in “Company.”

In “Richard II,” the protagonist is charismatic and eloquent but a disastrous king—dishonest, capricious, and politically inept. Shakespeare’s play explores the timeless issue of dealing with a ruler who has an undeniable right to the throne but is ruining the country he governs. The narrative captures feudal England transitioning towards modernity as Henry Bolingbroke challenges the divine authority of the monarch with practical realism.

The production design is by Bob Crowley (known for “Straight Line Crazy” and “The Book of Dust – La Belle Sauvage” at The Bridge; Olivier Award-winning “An American in Paris” in the West End) and lighting design by Bruno Poet (noted for “Julius Caesar” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at The Bridge; “Tina – The Tina Turner Musical” in the West End). Lily Dyble serves as Associate Director, and Robert Sterne is the Casting Director (known for “Straight Line Crazy” and “The Southbury Child” at The Bridge; “Game of Thrones” and “The Crown” for screen).

Performances run from February 10 to May 10, 2025, with a press night on February 18. Tickets will be available to the general public starting June 26, 2024.
