Sian Eleri joins list of stars rumoured for this year’s Strictly
BBC presenter Sian Eleri is set to take part in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.
A source told wheretowatch.tv “BBC bosses have been hugely impressed by Sian, who has universal appeal and is considered to be a real future star both on TV and radio. Her documentary series has been streamed by millions and she’s also loved by listeners on Radio 1. We’re told Sian is on the wish-list for Strictly as bosses see it as the perfect platform to springboard her onto bigger projects”.
Sian is a Welsh radio DJ and television presenter, best known for her shows on BBC Radio 1, Selector Radio, and Radio Cymru. Eleri can be heard on Sunday nights and also hosts the Powerdown Playlist from 10 to 11 pm, Monday to Wednesday, a slot previously occupied by Jack Saunders. The programme is also streamed on Radio 1’s sister station, BBC Radio 1 Relax.
Eleri curates an event series of artist performances titled Tonna, which translates to the colloquial form of “waves” in Welsh. The event is held at the OMERA venue in London, featuring performances from artists such as Jordan Stephens and Lucy Blue.
Last year, Eleri’s four-part horror documentary series, Paranormal: The Girl, the Ghost and the Gravestone, was broadcast on BBC Three and released as a boxset on iPlayer. The series was streamed over 2.7 million times on BBC iPlayer, leading to a brand new follow-up series where Sian explores another area of the paranormal – UFOs.
Sian says: “A second series is upon us! It’s been so eye-opening to investigate such open-ended issues, with series one raising questions challenging my own beliefs, so I can’t wait to get started on the next celestial adventure. The world of UFOs, extra-terrestrial activity and other theories around what exists in our skies is vast, so who knows what we might discover? I’m intrigued to find out.”
From tracking down eyewitnesses and researchers who have made it their life’s work to find answers, to those who suspect a hoax or psychological phenomena, Sian will delve into every theory in search of the truth.
Following in the footsteps of the first series, Paranormal: The Girl, The Ghost and the Gravestone, in which Sian investigated an apparently haunted farmhouse in north Wales, Sian’s natural scepticism will once again be tested.
Clare Sillery, Head of Documentary Commissioning for the BBC, says: “It’s been great to see how our audience enjoyed the first series of Paranormal. I’m delighted Sian Eleri will be returning – this time for a dive into the weird world of Ufology.”
Nick Andrews, Head of Commissioning at BBC Wales says: “Our nation’s obsession with all things paranormal is confirmed with our smash hit first series. Why wouldn’t we go again? This time to outer space and if some of the rumours are to be confirmed and the archive believed, Sian’s about to uncover an extraordinary true story…or is she? This is what we love about this series and BBC Cymru Wales is right behind (the sofa) as Sian and her team take us on another terrific adventure. You couldn’t make it up.”
Andrew Ridgley, Hannah Waddingham, Roman Kemp, Tommy Fury and Toya Wilcox are among the other names rumoured for this year’s dancing competition which will launch in September.
