Review: Capital’s Summertime Ball with Barclaycard 2024 really is THE UK’s biggest party ☆☆☆☆☆
Cast your mind back and you might recall events like Smash Hits Poll Winner’s Party, Radio 1 Roadshows and Capital’s very own Party in the Park. These days, events like this don’t happen so often, but when they do, they’re off the scale. And it’s Capital, which delivers a phenomenal live event infront of a whopping 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium every Summer in the form of Capital’s Summertime Ball with Barclaycard.
The incredible thing about this event is there are no fillers. There are no gaps in the lineup where you wouldn’t mind nipping out for a sausage roll and a toilet stop. There are no long pauses and silly filler games from over-excited presenters. It’s simply a marathon of a concert with one world class artist after the next.
Where else can you see the likes of Meghan Trainor, Benson Boone, David Guetta and Raye on a Sunday afternoon/evening? You have to pinch yourself when an artist like Aitch opens the thing at 3.45pm of an afternoon.
And this is not a case of popstars popping in two sing two songs and then leaving, this is one massive set after the next. And what really resonated at the Ball was just how much the artists love doing it. From Sugababes to Jax Jones and surprise guest Natasha Beddingfield, every single one of them over delivered. And it was magical to see the likes of Perrie Edwards, Paul Russell and Bradley Simpson have their moments alongside such legends as Rudimental, Becky Hill and Ella Henderson.
They themselves can’t seem to believe what’s playing out infront of them in one of the world’s most iconic stadiums.
And it’s all wrapped up with so much love and attention from some of Global’s presenters. It was visibly clear from ex-Radio 1 DJ Jordan North that he just could not believe what he was doing. Being the ringmaster and host for a phenomenal concert of this size and grandeur.
It’s all executed so brilliantly as well. The sets, the staging, the lighting and the production – we can’t not credit every one of the amazing Global staff who pull this thing together. If you couldn’t be there, you can watch the ENTIRE concert on Global Player for free (which in itself, we can hardly believe!).
