New Radio 1 Dance schedule launches today
BBC Radio 1 Dance, the spin-off stream which showcases Radio 1’s Dance output, has launched a series of brand new shows today.
This morning, Arielle Free kicked off her brand new morning show, which airs weekdays 9am until 12. Then from 12, Connor Coates launches his brand new lunchtime show, playing massive dance tunes each weekday between 12 – 3pm.
Also in the revised schedules, Danny Howard will present Radio 1’s Dance Party Warm Up, a weekly show available every Thursday (6pm – 8pm) getting listeners ready for the weekend. Pete Tong will curate his Essential History of Dance a weekly show (Saturdays, 7pm – 8pm) dedicated to telling the story of the Dance genre. There will also be a new evening specialist series which will see Radio 1 Dance collaborate with key Dance music labels Defected Records, HE.SHE.THEY. and DnB Allstars. Additionally, Connor Coates will present a daily playlist – Radio 1 Dance – which will come from Northern Ireland, playing the best new, current and classic Dance tracks, and Charlie Hedges’ Radio 1 Dance Anthems will be streamed daily across afternoons.
In addition, Martha has take over Radio 1’s weekly Tuesday night show (11pm – 1am) which was previously hosted by the late Radio 1 DJ Annie Nightingale. Martha will continue Annie’s legacy in showcasing the biggest and best new Dance tracks in the world. Martha has been hugely supported by Annie and was one of the inaugural recipients of the Annie Nightingale Presents Scholarship, an initiative created by Annie Nightingale in 2021 focussed on celebrating and elevating talented women and non-binary people in the electronic music scene by providing them with a national platform to showcase their taste and expertise. Martha will be simulcast on the Radio 1 Dance stream.
Aled Haydn Jones, Head of BBC Radio 1, says: “The summer months see a change in routine for our young listeners and as a station, it’s important we acknowledge this and continue to cater to their needs. With that in mind, I’m pleased to introduce our new summer 2024 schedule which offers a variety of new shows and content as well as an extra thirty minutes of Radio 1 Breakfast! I can’t wait to tune in!”
