Girls Aloud, Jane McDonald and Rylan confirmed for Radio 2 Bank Holiday specials

Girls Aloud lead Radio 2’s bank holiday highlights

Girls Aloud will team up with Rylan for a bank holiday special on BBC Radio 2, and Jane McDonald will return with another of her ‘Picky Tea’ shows.

In The Girls Aloud Takeover with Rylan at 2pm, Cheryl, Nicola, Kimberley and Nadine take a break from their reunion tour for this Bank Holiday special in which they are joined by Radio 2’s very own superfan, Rylan. The show is packed with classic Girls Aloud hits, and they each pick their own ultimate feelgood track from other artists. With Rylan at the helm, this is two hours packed with nostalgia, laughter, and also poignant memories as they pay tribute to the late and much missed Sarah Harding.

Answering questions from fans sent in ahead of the show, they’ll be sharing memories of their ups and downs since winning Pop Stars: The Rivals in 2002. Rylan remembers it vividly and has followed the girls ever since, and he wants to know all of the backstage stories and behind-the-scenes gossip from the music videos, onstage mishaps and winning a Brit Award, they may even compare notes on going through the process of appearing on a live television talent show.

Celebrity fans also seize the moment to put their burning question to them… find out what comedian, Alan Carr, singer Olly Alexander, an anonymous member of McFly, and Pop Stars: The Rivals host Davina McCall, had to know the answer to!

At 4pm, Jane McDonald is back with another teatime special. Grab a paper plate and help yourself to some picky tea as Jane entertains you for three hours, joined by some celebrity pals – Gabrielle, Michael Ball, The Vivienne and Mitch Lane – and listeners who will all be sharing what’s on their plate and how they like to enjoy a Bank Holiday. Expect to hear more of Jane’s hilarious stories from her years as one of the UK’s leading entertainers… Jane has a story for everything.

All of this plus a playlist packed with feelgood pop hits from the 60s to the present day, from the likes of Madonna, The Spice Girls, Kylie, Girls Aloud, Stevie Wonder, Take That and many more, handpicked by Jane so she can belt ‘em out around the studio.

Also on Bank Holiday Monday (27 May), Tony Blackburn is back with another Sounds of Soul special at 12.
