Dermot O’Leary to host huge new primetime show, The Talent Test

wheretowatch.tv Exclusive: Dermot O’Leary is making a huge return to primetime tv, fronting a brand new TV talent competition, The Talent Test.

It’s the first time Dermot has hosted a big talent entertainment show since The X Factor. The new series, which could prove to be a rival to Britain’s Got Talent, will air on a major network, although the channel is currently unconfirmed.

Little is known about the new series, but the This Morning favourite will film a pilot for it at Hackney Empire on Thursday, 11 July. Fans can apply for free tickets via the SRO Audiences website.

A source told us: “There is so much secrecy around this show. It could well turn out to be the case that this is actually Simon Cowell’s new Netflix series in which he will form a new boyband, or it could be that this is a rival channel’s answer to BGT”.

O’Leary’s big break with “The X Factor” came in 2007 when he replaced Kate Thornton as the main presenter of the show. His debut coincided with the fourth series of the talent competition, which was rapidly growing in popularity.

As the host of “The X Factor,” O’Leary played a crucial role in the show’s success. He was responsible for guiding the live shows, interacting with contestants, and providing a steadying presence amidst the often chaotic and emotional atmosphere of the competition. His ability to connect with the contestants, offer them comfort, and his professional handling of live television made him a central figure in the show’s dynamic.

O’Leary’s rapport with the judges, including Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, and Louis Walsh, added to the show’s appeal. He managed to balance light-hearted banter with the judges while maintaining the show’s momentum. His warm, approachable style made him a favorite among fans, and he became a familiar and reassuring presence on Saturday night television.

During his tenure, O’Leary witnessed and was part of numerous memorable moments on “The X Factor.” These included the rise of successful acts like Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, One Direction, and Little Mix. He was often the first to console eliminated contestants, offering words of encouragement and support, which showcased his empathetic nature.

One of the standout moments in O’Leary’s career on “The X Factor” was his handling of controversies and unexpected events, such as technical glitches or dramatic exits. His calm demeanor and quick thinking in these situations earned him respect and admiration from both viewers and colleagues.

In 2015, after eight years with the show, O’Leary decided to step down from his role as host, seeking to explore new opportunities and challenges. His departure was met with disappointment from fans who had grown accustomed to his presence. However, his absence was short-lived; in 2016, he made a highly anticipated return to “The X Factor,” resuming his hosting duties and reinvigorating the show’s presentation.
